The Full Story

About

Born from over a decade of experience working on major studio productions, Precedent Productions emerged with a singular vision: to create purposeful content that drives meaningful change. Precedent Productions is a visionary film, television, and multimedia production company dedicated to creating powerful stories that inspire social change. We believe in the transformative power of storytelling—elevating voices that challenge the status quo, illuminate untold perspectives, and ignite meaningful conversations. At the heart of our work lies an unwavering commitment to social impact. Each project we undertake seeks to forge bold new paths, leaving behind a legacy that not only entertains but also sparks action and fosters a brighter, more hopeful future.

Our diverse production slate encompasses a wide range of content, from scripted and unscripted films and television to documentaries, short films, and animated series. At Precedent Productions, our commitment to positive change extends beyond the stories we tell on screen. We actively cultivate a culture of impact behind the scenes by offering seminars on key topics such as diversity and inclusion, sustainability, and health and wellness. Additionally, we provide tailored consultations on sustainable nutrition and wellness strategies designed specifically for film workers, ensuring that every aspect of production reflects our core values of care, equity, and responsibility.

As we continue to push the boundaries of what impactful storytelling can achieve, we extend these critical discussions through The Screen Room Podcast, where we explore the dynamic intersection of media, social impact, and culture. Each episode amplifies voices and ideas that challenge conventional narratives, creating space for meaningful dialogue that resonates far beyond the entertainment world.

At Precedent Productions, we’re not just telling stories; we’re setting new precedents for how stories can shape a better world.

Fernando Barbosa is an award-winning documentary filmmaker, producer, actor, and entrepreneur with a remarkable career that began at the age of ten. His passion for storytelling has driven him to work on films that have represented Bolivia at the Academy Awards and earned numerous accolades across the globe. More importantly, his films have sparked positive change, addressing critical social issues and making a lasting impact on communities.

One of his most notable projects, the documentary Take Off, was inspired by his deep connection with street children in Bolivia—children who worked in local dumpsters and slept under bridges. Through this film, Fernando shed light on their struggles and raised awareness about the challenges they face.

In addition to his film work, Fernando is a dedicated advocate for human rights and social justice. As a member of the LGBTQ+ community and someone who has navigated his own mental health journey, he brings a unique and deeply personal perspective to his creative endeavors. His passion for making a difference extends beyond filmmaking; he is also the author of a children’s book and a collection of poetry. Fernando's voice has resonated on many platforms, including schools, universities, radio stations, TV shows, and a TEDx talk in Bolivia.

Fernando’s commitment to social impact through film is complemented by his strong academic background. He holds a degree in Economics and International Business from the John Molson School of Business at Concordia University, where he was recognized for his academic excellence and volunteer work. His leadership and dedication were further acknowledged when he was invited to speak at the World Bank in 2012, sharing his experiences working with at-risk youth in Bolivia.

Now residing in Toronto, Fernando continues to refine his craft as Co-Founder of Precedent Productions alongside Zahra.
Together, they are committed to creating powerful stories that inspire social change.
